Dobermann

Dobermann is suitable for every healthy minded person, who has enough time and patience to train the dog at least to basic level and who does not choose the breed only based on its looks.

With a Dobe you can do almost anything, but it takes several years before they mature. However they do not grow out of independent thinking. They do everything you say, but don't be surprised if a trick is added. The best examples can be found from training fields - a roll-over during "down", with perfect position after rolling or a ring of honour (with ovations from the audience of course) after "come here". One can say that a Dobe has self-charging batteries (much more lasting than Duracells), they have energy and activity to give others as well. Most Dobermanns also have a high prey drive.

Dobermann insists to take part of your everyday life. They do not settle with being bystanders, but press themselves in the middle of everything. They do well in a pack (nb! it involves risks to keep several Dobermanns of same sex together), but it is obvious, that above all they enjoy being the only dog.

Summa summarum: you will not get bored with a Dobe. If you're active, with over average tolerance level, can outsmart your dog and have a sense of humour, you are welcome to be a Dobermann-owner! If one of these qualities is not there, take some time to think it over, maybe the breed is not for you.

Estonian Hound

Estonian Hounds are persistent hunting dogs, which means self-minded dogs who do not always to their owner in regular vocabulary. If you want a dog that does everything you say (even if the dog does not want to do it), choose another breed. It is possible that one day your wish will be filled, but tomorrow might not be so successful. Sometimes it seems that once an interesting smell hits the hound's nose, the channel between the brain and the ears gets completely blocked.

Estonian Hounds are below medium sized, which means they can happily live in an apartment. The assumption is that they get enough activities outside of course. Your own house might seem comfortable for dog owner, but the fence must be very dogproof. The proofness can be assessed only after a rabbit or a fox or the neighbour's cat has walked by your fence.

If you want a cute looking, active, curious, intelligent and sometimes quite stubborn dog, Estonian Hound is the one for you. Keep in mind, that although they are shorthaired, the shed all year round. Those little white hairs can be found everywhere.

Hunting! Hunting! Hunting! Once they have discovered hunting, there's nothing more important. Which is great, as this is what they were bred to do. From March until September, when hunting with a hound is prohibited in Estonia, you can attend dog shows, agility and other dog events. Or just enjoy their company and take long walks on the leash.
